Community Updates
October 2026 | Dr. Andrea Holzner, PhD
Adult communities bring people together through shared experiences, learning, and everyday companionship. Education can be part of that connection, especially when it speaks to the questions residents, families, and staff are already asking.
Below are a few education and presentation options:
Adult Communities
My presentations explore healthy aging, brain health, and navigating life’s transitions, including anticipatory grief, grieving and many other topics. We explore curiosity and reflection, with ideas participants can relate to their own lives. A meaningful talk should leave people feeling included and able to ask questions. These talks have created opportunity for adults to see how community rather than living alone are needed.
Support for Families
Families may need help understanding changes in cognition, communication, or daily functioning. Support can introduce ways to observe changes, prepare questions for the care team, and approach conversations with greater confidence.
Learning alongside staff
Staff education focuses on dementia communication, person centered care, and recognizing changes in a resident’s needs. Training can be tailored to the community’s concerns, giving staff practical strategies to respond with confidence and compassion.
Staff training can help:
Reduce caregiver stress and burnout, supporting staff retention.
Prevent avoidable crises that may lead to emergency transport, emergency department visits, or psychiatric hospitalization.
Reduce the risk of abuse, neglect, and inappropriate responses, helping limit regulatory violations and legal exposure.
Strengthen residents’ trust, comfort, and sense of safety, remembering that this is their home.
Promote dignity, autonomy, and meaningful engagement in everyday care.
Improve teamwork, consistent communication, and timely reporting of changes in residents’ needs.
